ComparisonHRV vs ERV for Ontario homes: which makes sense?
For most Oxford County homes, an HRV is the right choice — our winters are cold and dry, exactly what HRVs are built for. ERVs make sense in humid climates. This guide walks through how each one works and the actual decision for a Woodstock-area home.

Common Questions
About ventilation work.

Do I really need an HRV or ERV?
If your house was built or majorly renovated in the last 20 years, very likely yes. Modern builds are tight enough that without controlled fresh-air exchange, indoor air goes stale and humidity builds up. Older homes get away without one because they leak air everywhere — usually a worse trade.
What's the difference between HRV and ERV?
Both exchange stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air while recovering heat. ERVs also exchange moisture — useful if your house gets very dry in winter or very humid in summer. HRVs are usually the better pick for Oxford County's cold winters.
Can you install a whole-home humidifier with my furnace?
Yes — humidifiers usually go in alongside furnace work. Bypass-style and steam-style both have their place; we'll recommend based on your home.
Do you do duct cleaning?
No — we focus on equipment install and service. For duct cleaning we can refer you to specialists who do that as their main job.
